Communities Against Violence Network CAVNET is a comprehensive, searchable database for information about violence against women. They have articles on everything from welfare reform and domestic violence to violence against immigrant women to Rohypnol, the "date rape drug" to legal information and statistics. Institute on
Domestic Violence in the African American Community Essential Information on Abuse Assault Rape and Domestic Violence This site gives a list of websites focused on issues such as domestic violence, sexual assault and prevention/self-defense. The site also gives a list of hotline numbers for abuse and/or assault. Global Alliance Against Trafficking in Women This organization's mission is "to ensure that the human rights of trafficked persons are respected and protected by authorities and agencies. Our strategy is to promote the involvement of grassroots women in all work against trafficking in persons to ensure that any work done addresses the real problems. We work to empower women rather than treat them as victims." Their site contains information on current international and national laws on trafficking as well as action information and statistics. WEAVE-- Women Escaping a Violent Environment WEAVE is a non profit agency specializing in domestic violence, sexual assault prevention, and victim assistance. Minnesota Higher Education Center Against Violence & Abuse This Electronic Clearinghouse contains information and links on many issues, teaching resources, upcoming conferences, papers online, and global concerns of peace and human rights. Easy to get around and rather extensive, the site is very resourceful for those looking to do their own research on a particular issue. Do not miss the stimulating and impressive Kids Gallery of pictures or the inspirational prose and poetry. Sexual Assault Information Page SAIP provides information concerning acquaintance rape, child sexual abuse/assault, incest, rape, ritual abuse, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. Information is provided via the WWW, email, a monthly electronic newsletter, as well as occasional hardcopy mailings for specific requests. SAIP is considered one of the best resources on the Web for sexual assault. Performance artist Nancy Hulse operates this website, which offers resources and forums on domestic violence, as well as information about Hulse's multi-media educational shows, called "That Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady" and "A Rose by Any Other Name." A good resource for schools, organizations, or communities seeking an educational presentation and format to discuss violence against women.
Emotional AbuseEmotional or verbal abuse is a problem that is frequently overlooked, but can be as damaging as actual physical violence. Find daily news, take action's and information resources. Mitretek Systems Criminal Justice Links Make this site your first stop for law enforcement. It contains links to federal, state and local criminal justice agencies, law-related sites and other criminal justice resources. Nurse Advocate: Nurses and Workplace Violence Find information and Web links on violence in the workplace, nurses' stories, oppression theory, violence against women and domestic violence, basic human rights, getting help and support and much more... The focus of the site is a series of 1995 articles (in 11 parts) published by The Standard-Times of New Bedford, MA. The articles were written following six months of investigating domestic violence cases. The site contains phone numbers of shelters in Southeastern Massachusetts, and links to other internet resources on domestic violence. OrganizationsAmerican College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' Violence Against Women Webpage Find resources for clinicians which include referral information and advice on how to screen for violent abuse. Resources for girls and women include a self-administered "check list" for abuse, a safety plan for escaping violence and updates on new legislation and policies regarding violence against women. Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence The Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence is a New England-based organization that conducts outreach, education, violence prevention, counseling, and adovocacy programming aimed at ending domestic violence. Their resources are specifically directed toward Asian families, providing much-needed multicultural and multilingual programs and information. The Feminist Majority Foundation's National Center for Women and Policing Information about this vital initiative to improve police response to incidents of family violence, and to increase women's participation in policing. Family Violence Prevention Fund This site contains valuable information on men and domestic violence anduseful tips on mobilizing a campaign against violence. It also featuresimportant data on the global response to battered immigrant women includinghow to obtain brochures for service providers or victims. American Institute on Domestic Violence This non-profit group targets employers and offers training on the affects of domestic violence on the workplace. The group conducts workshops on how to help employees who are the victims of domestic violence. While not necessarily a feminist site, AIDV provides helpful information for employers that is sensitive to the needs of battered women. Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence The Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence is a New England-based organization that conducts outreach, education, violence prevention, counseling, and adovocacy programming aimed at ending domestic violence. Pennsylvania Resources on Domestic Violence This personally-founded and -maintained website contains many active and updated links, both national and PA-state. You will find information on domestic violence as well as listings of shelters and hotlines. Phenomenal Women of the Web Against Domestic Violence This site features a discussion forum, a place for women to submit their writing and poetry, an online store for books on domestic violence, and links to battered women's shelters and organizations. This site contains contact information for coalitions, shelters, or rape crisis centers in EVERY state in the U.S., and features several links to some of which have state-specific information. It includes important information and statistics on various types of abuse and violence. Produced by a domestic violence activist, this site is a collection of links, and information specific to New York state, as well as many articles about domestic violence -- how to stop it, the connection with alcohol, statistics and advice for comminity response. There is also a handbook for victims and helpers that includes safety planning and risk assessment, available services, a reading list and information on domestic violence. Sergeant Anne O'Dell (Retired) is a twenty year veteran of the San Diego Police Dept., who now trains nationally and internationally on Domestic Violence and related issues. The U.S. Department of Justice Violence Against Women Office This extensive site provides information on state, regional, and national resources, links to police departments with domestic violence pages, fact sheets, and many other links. It also includes a plethora of government information on domestic violence including legislation, reports and studies, speeches and press releases. When Love Hurts: A Guide for Girls on Love, Respect and Abuse in Relationships The Domestic Violence & Incest Resource Centre, funded by the Australian government, has created this new Web site, which includes a wealth of useful information. Find relational warning signs, a respect checklist, safety plans, a space to write down feelings, ideas to consider, legal information, and a list of Australian support services. This colorful, award-winning page designed to be a comfort and outlet for survivors of sexual abuse and rape is a good place to network. It includes a list of related organizations as well as interactive chat rooms, a writing, letters and poetry section, e-mail lists and a posting area. It has a section on Real Audio clips with survivors' stories. Victims Fighting Back is a non-profit organization that conducts legal advocacy for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. The site contains general information on legal remedies for victims and sexual abuse/domestic violence as well as information on current state legislation the group is lobbying for. Women Against a Violent Environment (WAVE) Initiated to increase public awareness of the murders of Rochester, NY area women, the site contains a short list of what you can do, and contact addresses/numbers. StalkingThe National Victim Center--Helpful Guide for Stalking Victims This guide gives practical information for stalking victims and strategies for reducing odds of physical or emotional harm from a stalker. The National Victim's Center--Questions and Answers about Stalking The National Victim's Center gives lists helpful questions and answers about stalking. There is a lot of good information about the different kinds of stalkers. National Center for Victims of Crime This site gives a lot of good information on domestic violence, stalkers and sex offenders. Includes a great virtual library on these subjects. The purpose of the Stalking Victims Sanctuary is to educate people about stalking and to offer sanctuary to those exposed to stalking. The text-heavy site offers resources for victims who want to take back their lives. Self-DefenseAmerican Self Defense Institute This site gives tips to avoid confrontation by learning to spot circumstances ahead of time. It also provides exper advice on how to get through a confrontation in one piece. Emergency legal service information is included. American Women's Self Defense Association (AWSDA) With a commitment to further women's awareness of self-defense and rape prevention, this organization trains women in basic self-defense skills. The site offers information on membership and responsible firearm ownership. Links to related sites. The Empower Program is a non-profit educational organization in the Washington, DC area dedicated to empowering all people to understand their power and role in preventing gender-based violence. The site includes information about their programs and staff, including a section on self-defense. Resources for Anti-Violence Networks (RAVN) This Virginia organization works to link high-risk abused women to survival services through direct service, training, and consultation programs. Special issues include stalking, trafficking, disability, and lesbian battering. While the site is mostly useful to women in Virginia, it also contains information useful for activists who want to stay up-to-date on current national issues and legislation dealing with violence against women.
The Women's Self Defense Alliance is administered by Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services which is dedicated to making self-defense awareness and skills widely available to women of all ages and physical abilities.
