- Family violence
- The intvio-L list will serve as a networking system
devoted to all aspects of family violence. While various other lists may
explore the topics of child abuse or violence within the family, the
intimate violence list is unique in that it serves a wide range of areas
that constitute the definition of intimate violence. This list is designed
to encompass all areas of interest regarding family violence rather than
limiting discussion to one interest.
listserv@uriacc.uri.edu - 18 Feb 1998 - TKS
- Intimate violence
- The Electronic Journal of Intimate Violence will make
use of the Internet to bring you the latest information on the research
and treatment of intimate violence. Topics include physical child abuse,
sexual child abuse, child neglect, physical spouse abuse, sexual spouse
abuse, psychological abuse, elder abuse, and dating violence, as well as
other related topics subscribers may wish to explore.
listserv@uriacc.uri.edu - 17 Sep 1998 - TKS
- Stop Domestic Violence
- SDV is a discussion with victims of domestic violence.
The goal is to share experiences and change. The mission is to provide
friendships with others and learn how to make a change in life. This is
victim-to-victim. Professional participation is welcome.
azhomes@netzone.com - 11 Nov 1997 - TKS
- Survival
- Domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault are
amongst the topics discussed in this mailing list.

FIVERS
E-Mail List began on 5-16-96.
FIVERS stands for:
Feminists against Intimate Violence through Empowerment, Energizing, Education, Exchange
Resources, Resistance, Research AND Support.
FIVERS
is an e-mail discussion list that focuses on all aspects of intimate
abuse and examines the phenomena from a feminist perspective. Different list
members may look to FIVERS to fulfill a variety of needs. Therefore, even
the acronym FIVERS represents the diverse needs of the group members. While
it is not necessary for you to identify yourself as a feminist to join this
list, we do agree on the following premises;
1) All acts of physical violence in intimate relationships are wrong,
except in cases of self-defense.
We recognize that non-physical abuse can
be profoundly damaging to individuals and we welcome discussion of these
issues.
2) Historical and institutional practices, as well as cultural attitudes
(sometimes referred to as patriarchal) that condone violence against women
and children are major factors in society's failure to end partner abuse,
dating violence, and rape.
These factors also contribute to the high
incidence of child abuse and incest because they promote the view that
children belong to their parents and are not independent individuals.
The FIVERs are a diverse group of women and men from many countries.
Some of use are survivors; others are not. All of us are dedicated to
building a peaceful, just and non-violent world.
FIVERS seeks to provide a
forum for the free and open discussion of all aspects of these issues in a
thoughtful, safe and respectful environment.
************************************************************************
Process Guidelines
(6-7-96)
3) I will follow the norms of netiquette.
(URL = http://www.fau.edu/rinaldi/net/dis.html)
4) I understand that this is a list where debate, discussion, differences of
opinion, and plurality of opinions are heartily encouraged. However, this is
not a list where the existence of intimate violence, the validity of
feminism, or the lack of victim culpability for violence will be debated.
5) I will
limit my posts to a moderate number and will abide by the list
Coordinators warnings that my posts have become excessive or are
consistently too long.
6) I will not "spam" this list with advertisements.
I understand, however,
that promoting conferences and educational opportunities and materials,
relevant to the topic of intimate violence are acceptable.
7) I will not send "flame" mail to this list or to any individual
member of
this list privately.
8) I will
not privately or publicly harass individual members of the
list and recognize that "harassment" is defined by the recipient.
The
working definition of harassment established by the list Coordinator is
more than one unwanted contact through private electronic mail, snail mail,
telephone, or fax after the person who is contacted clearly states that they
wish no contact.
9) In agreeing to abide by these process guides, I understand that
violating them may result in the immediate termination of my subscription.
I will be given 48 hours to appeal that decision with the current FIVERS
Coordinators:
10) I understand that the entire list will be informed of the decision to end
my subscription.
11) I understand that should I engage in harassing behavior, the List
Coordinators and members will forward a complaint to postmasters and assist
in criminal prosecution or civil legal action when applicable.
************************************************************************
Process Clarifications (05-11-97)
The following is
a reminder of List Rules/Protocols:
FIVERS' list is currently run by three list coordinators (Co-Coordinators),
with three back up coordinators who serve as advisors and who may move
into a coordinator's role when someone is ill or out of town. The list is
managed administratively (technically) by a list manager.
These seven people were empowered by the original FIVERS Collective
through a feminist consensus process. Those who are acting as the three
current coordinators have the authority to run the list, approve subscriptions
and expell subscribers.
12) This update serves as a list wide warning to
all current and future subscribers to FIVERS of the importance of
following list policies designed to keep this forum respectful and free from
flaming and personal attacks.
This does not restrict in any way strong,
passionate and heated, yet, respectful debate between list members.
Flaming and personal attacks have not and will not be tolerated on
this list. If
a member chooses to personally attack or flame another
member, they
will be unsubscribed.
13) Forwarding of any FIVERS post not written entirely by you, in any
form, even with names/headers removed, to any non-FIVERS member or
any other list is strictly forbidden.
It is also a violation of the
copyright of the originator's personal words which is why permission
must be sought from the writer to post their words either to another
person or another list.
14) Note - this includes taking a response to a post you originated and
was responded to by another FIVERS member.
You may not repost
anything written in response to you and posted publicly on this list to any
other person or list without the responder's explicit permission. Violation
of these policies will result in immediate unsubbing.
15) The ONLY exceptions are newspaper articles, alerts, posts that say
"please forward".
If you are in doubt about forwarding, don't do it.
Check with the poster and/or the coordinators.
Failure to do so
violates policy and will result in unsubbing.
16) Please refrain from posting anything to the FIVERS list for (from)
members who have been un-subbed. Note that If you engage in this
behavior, you in turn will be un-subbed.
17) Please do not post information from other lists' conflicts about people
to bolster your opinions here on FIVERS.
This includes old business to
support your position in a current controversy.
We don't see the purpose
of hashing over other lists' conflicts.
This behavior will also result in
unsubbing.
18) Please do not use someone's name in the subject line when challenging
or critiquing something posted by them. If you go to a list frequented
by our opposition -- the radical right/fathers rights/abusers lobby, you
will note that they invariably insult someone in the subject line. Then all
the responses repeat the insult.
19) If you believe a FIVERS member has been harassing or abusive on the
FIVERS list, and that this represents a pattern from other lists, please
post to the coordinators privately about your concerns. In the past,
for instance, coordinators have considered that information if the
information indicates that the poster is a member of the radical
right/fathers rights/abusers lobby.
20) If you receive harassing or abusive private email from list members,
please let us know immediately. If you are being harassed or abused
via the internet in any way, we have been able to help others and may be
able to help you.
21) We have and will continue to engender an atmosphere where ideas not
personalities are at issue. That does not mean we don't validate
righteous anger at someone else's position, and challenges that are
respectful.
22) If someone is ever upset and angry about any of the Co-Coordinators'
actions and does not want to post to the list, they are encouraged to contact
us privately, so we can talk with you about your concerns.
Sincerely,
FIVERS COORDINATORS

Injustice has been such a great part of the social structure, that it is
almost impossible for some to perceive it. Marcuse speaks of a
one-dimensional society, where we we have become caught in one flat plane
of continuously self-producing order, characterized by oppression and
supported by structural violence. We have become entangled in this
one-dimensional world. A new society must be created governed by true
insight. This discussion forum is about true insight and social
radicalism. The forum is also gated to p.news.discuss on PeaceNet.
