Women's Worlds, 2002:in Kampala, Uganda

Call for papers/posters/exhibitions for Women's Worlds, 2002

The 8th International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women will be held at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, July 21-16, 2002.
Its central theme ("Gendered Worlds: Gains and Challenges") will be an assessment of progress over the past few decades in the status of women and gender equity: The goal of the meeting is to promote cross-cultural discussion between professionals working in organizations concerned with women/gender issues and academics in many fields.
English is the main language of the conference.

The Congress has met every three years, most recently in Norway, but this is the first time it has convened in an African country. Uganda is known for the progress it has made in women's emancipation and gender mainstreaming and for its strong women's movement. The Congress is being hosted by the Dept. of Women and Gender Studies at Makerere University, the first such department in Africa. Participants may stay in dormitories on the campus, located on a hillside on the edge of Kampala. Kampala is served by non-stop flights to nearby Entebbe airport from London, Brussels, and Cairo.

Proposals are welcomed for full panls, individual papers or projects, and posters or exhibitions. Please send an abstract, working title, and explanation of the project's relevance to the conference's theme to:

The Coordinator, Women's Worlds 2002
Dept. of Women and Gender Studies Makerere University
